Because Brain Tumors Stink
Last night, I volunteered to be the photobooth to take pictures of all the teams, families, and friends, at the Young Associates Board Run for Gus 5K. Run for Gus supports pediatric brain tumor research and activities for children in the hospital.
Tiana actually ran in the race, with Team Dancing Donna, in honor of Donna Quirke Hornik.
Donna was a beautiful little who took dance classes from our friend Shawn. Donna was 4 years old when she passed away becuase of cancer. Last year, we got to meet her parents and her brother for the first time. They hugged us and thanked Tiana for running with them, the treated everyone like family. Although Tiana was not a “runner” this was possibly the most wonderful experience she has ever had. There was even a bonus that she got to run in a tutu! So, of course, she did it again this year, and when they asked me to photograph, I had to say yes!
Donna’s family has started a foundation in Donna’s name, Donna’s Good Things. Their foundation started out giving dance scholarhsips to children. Now, They do so much more, as they continue to grow. Please check out the photos below, a little sneak peek at the photobooth. Then go to the website for Y.A.B and Donna’s Good Things. They are listed at the end of this blog.

We are proud to announce that we are working with Support 1000 again! This Tuesday evening we will be donating our photographic services to document some behind the scenes action for Support 1000 a Chicago based non profit.
History
Support1000 began as an initiative to collect 1,000 bras to donate to organizations that serve women.
We started with a single bra in November 2008 and today, thanks to generous donations from the public and retail stores, more than 10,000 bras have been donated, and as of January 2011 Support1000 has sent over 6,000 bras around the world to:
- schools
- churches
- organizations that provide attire for job interviews
- homeless shelters
- residential facilities for recovering addicts
- Sioux tribes
- a village in Kenya
- many other organizations and social services professionals who serve women
In April 2009 we met our goal of collecting and donating 1,000 bras. Support1000 now stands as a commitment to satisfy a need that is much larger than imagined.
Have a gently used Bra to donate? Here is what they are looking for -
Bras
Your bra donations are what allow us to help women in need, so keep ‘em coming! Please send in your bras with our bra donation form. If you are in the Chicago area and would like to drop your bras off, please contact Oz du Soleil.
Remember that we cannot donate bras that are not in good condition, and that at this time we are not collecting any other types of clothing. Specialty bras such as mastectomy bras, nursing bras, and training are greatly appreciated.
If you have any gently used or new bras that you do not need please consider donating them to Support 1000.
